CEREC® uses CAD/CAM (computer aided design/computer aided manufacturing) technology to deliver a precisely fitting crown in one visit.
Traditional crowns are made with a first visit to prepare the tooth and take an impression with gooey impression material. After the first visit, you wear a temporary crown over your tooth until a final crown can be made in the dental lab. The final crown is fitted at the second visit and if the crown does not fit, it could take several more visits until a final crown can be permanently fixed to your tooth.
With a CEREC® crown, a digital impression is taken immediately after preparing your tooth for a crown. From the digital impression the computer and your dental provider will design a crown that fits just like your natural tooth. The crown is milled by a milling unit in-office and your crown is ready in just about 1.5-2 hours. Your final crown is permanently fixed or cemented same day as the preparation; no temporaries, no gooey impressions
